È stato fondato nel 1980 dalla collezione di cimeli del commentatore radiofonico gallese GV Wynne-Jones. Dal 1990, gli inducenti all'esclusivo "Roll of Honor" sono stati scelti ogni anno da un comitato fiduciario composto da rappresentanti di atletica leggera, media, università e musei. L'organizzazione ha anche assegnato riconoscimenti a privati per l'eccezionale contributo allo sport gallese. Nel 2018 è stato aggiunto un premio in più per commemorare l'ex presidente, Rhodri Morgan. Il primo "Rhodri" è stato assegnato alla città di Cardiff per l'eccezionale servizio e l'impegno nei confronti dell'eccellenza sportiva.

La mostra della Hall of Fame era in mostra permanente allo Sports Council for Wales, al South Glamorgan County Council, al Museum of Welsh Life fino al 2009, quando si trasferì al Millennium Stadium di Cardiff.
