Rochelle Owens

Rochelle Bass Owens (nato il 2 aprile 1936 a Brooklyn, New York) è un poeta e drammaturgo americano.

Vita e carriera

Owens è la figlia di Maxwell e Molly (Adler) Bass. È nata e cresciuta a Brooklyn, New York, quindi ha studiato alla New School for Social Research e all'Università di Montreal.

Dopo un breve matrimonio con David Owens, sposò il poeta George Economou il 17 giugno 1962. Owens ha insegnato alla Brown University, alla University of California-San Diego, alla University of Oklahoma e alla University of Southwestern Louisiana.

Era fortemente coinvolta nel movimento teatrale off-off di Broadway. Come poetessa, ha contribuito notevolmente al progetto di poesia di St. Marks ed è stata uno dei fondatori di Cafe Deux Megots di Mickey Ruskin e Bill Mackey in 7th Street nell'East Village. Owens fu anche coinvolto nel movimento etnopoetico. Il suo lavoro ha influenzato drammaturghi e poeti sperimentali nelle generazioni successive.

Nel 1984, dopo essersi trasferito a Norman, in Oklahoma, Owens ha ospitato "The Writers Mind", un programma di interviste radiofoniche dell'Università dell'Oklahoma con vari artisti. A partire dal 2018, Owens vive a Wellfleet, nel Massachusetts e a Filadelfia.

Owens ha tenuto conferenze e letture negli Stati Uniti e a livello internazionale e ha partecipato al Festival de Poesie franco-anglais di Parigi.
